Judge Mac Parsons to run for Alabama Supreme Court

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Jefferson County Circuit Judge Mac Parsons says he's going to run for the Alabama Supreme Court next year as a Democrat, but he hasn't decided which of the three races he will enter.

I'm going to run. It's just a matter of which seat," Parsons told The Associated Press. Parsons is the first Democrat to announce for next year's Supreme Court races. State Democratic Party Chairman Joe Turnham said Monday that two other circuit judges and a prominent Birmingham attorney are considering running as Democrats.

"He's a proven vote-getter. He's a populist who can turn a phrase and use homespun wisdom," Turnham said.

Parsons, 66, is wrapping up his second six-year term as a circuit judge. Prior to becoming a judge, Parsons served 16 years in the state Senate.

A attorney, legislator and Circuit Judge shows that Judge Mac Parsons has great amount of experience to be on the Alabama Supreme Court Bench.

Convicted Jefferson County commissioner Jeff Germany to be released from prison today

Birmingham, AL - The first in a string of Jefferson County commissioners to face public corruption charges will be released from federal prison today. Jeff Germany, the only county commissioner so far to serve prison time, is set to walk out of the Federal Prison Camp in Montgomery 32 months and three weeks after he began serving a three-year, seven-month sentence on four counts of misapplying county funds and one count of conspiracy.

"I now ask that the citizens of Jefferson County and all the citizens of Birmingham forgive me," Germany wrote. "I owe apologies to my wife, my family, the members of my church and the friends who have stood with me during this dark hour of my life.
"I ask that you give me a second chance. I won't let you down."

Germany was the first of five former county commissioners to face public corruption charges for illicit activities while in office. Chris McNair also has been convicted but has not yet been sent to prison, while Mary Buckelew pleaded guilty and Larry Langford, currently mayor of Birmingham, awaits trial. Gary White awaits retrial after his January 2008 conviction was overturned.

Sound like this guy wants to return to the political scene one day in the future.
