“I
decided to run because how can I complain about business as usual if I'm not
willing to do anything about it.”
Running
for office in Mobile County is not a easy task, especially for a young college
graduate like Christian Smith. She has dedicated her time to run for the County
Treasurer seat because she cares about Mobile County.
When
I spoke to Christian Smith she pointed out that Republicans has taken over
local government, but she believes Democrats must rallying around its
candidates to win back Mobile County. “Local
government is the most basic form of government we have control over, yet we
brush it to the side and I want to re-emphasize the importance of it, said
Smith.”
Christian Smith is ready to get to work, and her goal is to work for the people of Mobile County and leave politics aside.

“If
I'm elected, I want to bring some modernization and transparency to the office
of Treasuer, said Smith”
Christian
Smith believes that the County Treasurer Office could be a vital asset and tool
for the citizens of Mobile County, to see how their tax dollars are being spent
and managed.
“My
goal is to have a website dedicated directly to the treasurer's office (it's
the only county office without its own site) and update the site accounting for
the expenses the county makes, said Smith.”
Um,
that brings me to wonder why doesn’t Mobile County Treasurer have a website;
should there be transparency for the people of Mobile County? I also ask the
question on why do Mobile County Commission favor ending the office of County
Treasurer, but they want to add more County Commissioners?
Christian
Smith is running for County Treasurer with hope, Hope that she will win and be
able to represent the citizens of Mobile County and prove her critics wrong.
Smith
says after being out on the campaign trail, talking with voters and a citizens,
the feedback is why the county isn’t being transparent with their tax dollars. “My
whole goal is to be able to show the budget on an easy to use website that
allows citizens to become more engaged in how their money is spent and be able
to hold their elected officials accountable for the money they oversee and
spend, said Smith.”
Christian
Smith will be hosting a campaign meet and greet fundraiser on July 28, 2012,
she is also the only democrat running for county wide office in November
against Republican nominee Phil Benson.
Christian
Smith is one of the few 2012 candidates in the country, who is endorsed by Democracy for America (DFA).
Jim
Dean, the Chair of Democracy for America said, “Many of our locally endorsed
candidates start out as grassroots activists trying to make a difference in
their communities. Democracy for America believes the best way to
build a stronger and more engaged progressive community is to enable candidates
up and down the ballot.”
