Investment Banker Bill Blount pleas guitly, now Larry Landford stands alone

Bill Blount a Montgomery Investment Banker pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiracy and bribery, agreeing to forfeit $1 million and go to prison for his role in what the government called a scheme between him and Larry Langford over Jefferson County financial deals.

Blount admitted to one count of bribing Langford on Nov. 9, 2004, when he made a $12,015 purchase at Tourneau, a watch retailer in New York, for Langford, then the County Commission president and now Birmingham's mayor. The other 41 counts against Blount were dropped. No sentencing date has been set. Langford is scheduled to stand trial Aug. 31.

What does this mean for Larry Lanford?

Well it let's us know that the two co-defendants in this 101 count indictment against Larry Lanford have come forward and pleaded guilty, and now it leaves all evidence pointing against Langford. He is now on his own. Larry Langford seems not to care to me at least, I wonder what he did with all that money he gotten from those bribes? Seems like he would have enough to pay the lawyers their fees to represent him, now we as citizens has to do that. He is getting paid well as mayor, use some of that or sell some of those assets he have like the house in Fairfield. This man don't care at all! If he did he wouldn't drag Birmingham through this mess, and have the citizens paying for his government appointed lawyer - remember our tax dollars for a crook that's representing us as mayor - huhhh. Larry what lies would you convey to the court and jury now? You lie about everything else you such the big dawg in the city or Jefferson County as you think. You want to curse everyone out cause of your problems, well if you don't create the problem them the problem wouldn't exist. Now you fault everyone else, it's your own fault.

  • And in reference to candidates getting or seeking the current sitting indicted mayor endorsement for the upcoming municipal election on Tuesday August 25th, these candidates don't want your endorsement and I find it hard to believe that any of them call to get your endorsement, just want to make yourself look good Mr. Mayor. Well I take that back, maybe Councilman Jonathan Austin sought your endorsement, cause he is your rubber stamp and yes man on the council he agrees with everything you have to say. Over half of the key candidates that I have spoken denies even having the thought of seeking the mayor endorsement, I would deny it too. The people of this city wants a change and sitting tight with a sitting corrupt mayor is not bringing change as a council person.
