Smitherman leads fundraising among City Council candidates, it also shows that she has been bought

The latest campaign finance reports for Birmingham 2009 municipal election for City Council and School Board was due to be filed by 5:00pm August 20, 2009. The latest reports are in and Carol Smitherman leads the race of all city council candidates with more than $45,000 in contributions, $45,124 to be exact.

Sheila Tyson, a serious challenger running against Smitherman for the District 6 seat on Birmingham City Council came in second with $23,175 in cash contributions. With all the contributions reported in these campaigns it shows that the special interest has paid it all for Smitherman and owns her voice at City Hall. When will this end, can the people have a voice once and for all?

Smitherman who is seeking a third term on the Council received several donations from political action committees such as $7,500 from FGAPAC, $5,000 each from the Environmental Campaign Fund, First Decade PAC, TOCPAC and John J. McMahon Jr. of Birmingham.
District 6 will never change with this type of leadership and representation on the Council. I hope the residents and loyal voters have opened their eyes to see it’s time for a change. Change will not come with the special interest groups taking charge. Smitherman should be ashamed of herself putting the special interest before the people. I guess Sheila Tyson is right after all and the other three challengers like Wiggins, Aaron and Hendrix, that district is really gone down hill and the 35211 zip code is the most dangerous in America.

We as a people can not take any more of this Mrs. Carol Smitherman. When it comes down to city business the elected council persons want to put on two faces, one like they really care and the other is they really don’t care. The most important is that their mind is control by the special interest of First Decade PAC, FGAPAC, TOCPAC, Environmental Campaign Fund and Mr. John J. Mahon, Jr. plus others. Sheila Tyson has also received a lot of funding from special interest groups.

Change is what we need!
